A Third Tunnel From Belarus Has Been Discovered In Lithuania

Another underground tunnel has been discovered on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. This was reported by the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.

The tunnel was located near the village of Latežeris, which is 10 km from Druskininkai. The passage was dug under a fence at a depth of about 1.5 meters. The underground passage was reinforced with logs and planks. It extended approximately four meters from the state border—from Belarusian territory into Lithuanian territory. An inspection of the tunnel revealed that the entrance on the Belarusian side was covered with camouflage netting.

“As in previous cases, construction of the tunnel had not yet been completed. There was no exit beyond the physical border barrier, so illegal migrants or other individuals could not enter Lithuanian territory through this underground passage. After the necessary procedural steps were taken, the suspected tunnel was filled in with earth,” — the border guards added.

A pretrial investigation has been launched into the illegal crossing of the state border. The law provides for a fine, arrest, or imprisonment for up to two years for such a crime.
