Riga Conducted A Drill Simulating An Invasion By A Potential Enemy

Barricades have been erected on the streets of Latvia's capital.

Authorities in Riga conducted exercises during which barriers were set up on one of the streets of the Latvian capital to defend against an imaginary enemy. This was reported by the local news agency Press.lv.

Journalists note that this was the first time such maneuvers had been conducted in Riga. During the exercises on Ojārs Vācietis Street, anti-vehicle barriers were erected, “designed to slow the movement of enemy forces in an urban environment.”

Heavy equipment was also used during the exercises to erect barriers made of concrete blocks, anti-tank metal shields, logs, and other elements. In addition, the ability to divide the territory into functional zones and organize the safe movement of people was practiced.

About 15 people took part in the exercises, which were monitored by approximately 50 observers from state and local government agencies.

Press.lv adds that the exercises were initiated by the Riga City Council, and that they were organized and coordinated by the Riga City Council’s Civil Protection Department in collaboration with the engineering company of the 1st Riga Brigade of Zamesardze—a volunteer armed organization that is part of the Latvian Armed Forces.
