Putin Is Afraid To Fly To Certain Regions Of Russia

Because of drone attacks.

Since resuming his trips to Russia’s regions in July, Putin has mainly been visiting areas outside the European part of the country. This was reported on August 7 by the Russian publication "Agency".

Next week, Putin plans to visit Novosibirsk—this will be his fifth regional visit, with only one of his previous trips having taken place in the European part of Russia.

The exceptions were Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Valdai—where Putin has residences—as well as Kazan. The visit to Kazan marked his first trip to the regions in 223 days. During that visit, strict security measures were implemented in the city: security forces were brought in from other regions, traffic was restricted on a number of streets, and residents were warned about possible communication disruptions.

After Kazan, Putin began traveling to regions—Irkutsk, Omsk, and the Krasnoyarsk Krai—which this summer either had not been attacked by Ukrainian forces at all, or had been targeted by them only extremely rarely.

In the Omsk Region, the first drones were shot down only on July 6, 2026—the same day the Omsk airport was closed for the first time since the start of the war. In addition, the Omsk Oil Refinery came under attack for the first time at that time.

In the Irkutsk region, drones have been detected only once since the start of the war—in June 2025, when an airfield was attacked as part of the SBU’s “Pautina” special operation.

In the Krasnoyarsk Krai, as the publication notes, no drones have been shot down since the start of the war.
