The daughter of Colonel General Yevgeny Burdinsky, head of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, helps Russians subject to military service obtain fictitious deferments and avoid being drafted into the army in exchange for money, according to an investigation “Meduza”.

Ekaterina Burdinskaya works at the Moscow-based law firm Budovnits Family Law Agency and, according to the publication, specializes in “resolving issues” with military registration and enlistment offices and mobilization. Her phone number is listed on the company’s website as a contact for clients who are offered assistance with obtaining deferments and exemptions. The services are advertised as confidential and discreet; journalists found testimonials from people claiming that, with Burdinskaya’s help, they were able to avoid conscription.

However, as Meduza discovered, Burdinskaya does not have a legal education in this field: she graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), and before working at the agency, she worked in sales. Her father, Yevgeny Burdinsky, has headed the Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation since 2018, overseeing conscription, mobilization, and other aspects of military personnel policy. He has previously publicly criticized Russians for evading military service and stated that conscripts would not be sent to combat zones.
