Drunk Russian Man Attacks Minsk Metro Security Guards: The End Of The Story

In late April, a video surfaced on social media showing security guards subduing a passenger right on the platform at Kamennaia Gorka Station. Eyewitnesses reported that prior to this, the man—who turned out to be a tourist from Smolensk—had been running through the train cars, trying to fight with security guards, and had even struck his young daughter.
It was reported today that the 28-year-old foreign national was sentenced to three months in jail for the altercation with metro security personnel at the Kamennaia Gorka station. The man was drunk and was trying to get onto the platform with his wife and young daughter; after being reprimanded, he punched an inspector in the face, officials told the state agency “Minsk-Novosti” by the Frunzensky District Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 26. A man, along with his wife and daughter—who had come to Minsk for a few days—were about to leave the city and planned to take the subway to the train station.
At the “Kamennaya Gorka” station, security personnel refused to let the man onto the platform because he was intoxicated.
“This angered the foreigner; he began to voice his dissatisfaction using profanity and making various threats, after which he went upstairs to call a taxi,” the prosecutor’s office said.
However, the app showed that they would have to wait a long time for the train, so the family went back down to the subway and passed through the turnstiles. When a security guard reminded them that it is prohibited to be on the subway or ride it while intoxicated, the man shoved him aside and, along with his wife and child, ran onto the train.
Since “Kamennaya Gorka” is the terminal station, the train soon let the passengers off. The family tried to transfer to a train going in the right direction, but in the process ran from car to car to avoid the inspectors, which delayed the train’s departure.
At one point, the train operator closed the doors and pulled away, leaving the family on the platform. After that, the man began acting aggressively again and punched one of the inspectors in the face. He was detained, and a criminal case was opened against him. He fully admitted his guilt.
The court found the man guilty of assault and threatening violence against a public official performing his duty to maintain public order (Article 366 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced him to three months of detention. In addition, he must pay one of the victims 1,000 rubles in compensation for emotional distress.
The verdict has not yet taken effect and may be appealed.
