Researchers in Turkey are studying the unusual Dürupinar formation near Mount Ararat. Geophysical scans have revealed structures beneath the surface that proponents of the Noah’s Ark theory believe may be the remains of an ancient ship. This is according to researchers from the Noah’s Ark Scans project, as reported by Daily Mail.
It is precisely because of its unusual shape that this site has been linked for decades to the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. Researchers are now using modern geophysical methods to determine what is actually hidden beneath the surface.
The team is employing ground-penetrating radar, electrical resistivity tomography, laser scanning, and other remote sensing techniques. According to the project’s supporters, the data obtained point to possible internal structures, cavities, and linear features underground.
These findings are the main reason for the renewed surge of interest in Durupinar. Researchers suggest that further investigations and drilling could help determine the origin of this unusual formation.
At the same time, the mere fact that underground anomalies have been detected does not prove that the biblical ark lies beneath the ground. Geophysical images may show natural geological structures, cavities, or other objects.
The mystery has lasted more than 60 years
The Dürupinar formation was first discovered in 1959 during surveying work. Its unusual shape almost immediately led to speculation that it might be the remains of a massive vessel.
Since then, the site has been explored repeatedly by various expeditions. Proponents of the ark theory claimed to have found wood, metal objects, and other traces of an ancient structure.
However, geologists have repeatedly reached a different conclusion. According to one scientific interpretation, Durupinar is a natural geological formation that merely resembles a ship.
To date, there is no universally accepted scientific evidence that Durupinar is Noah’s Ark. The search for the Ark on Mount Ararat and in the surrounding areas has remained a subject of debate for many decades, and academic researchers often classify such claims as pseudoarchaeology.
However, new scans allow researchers to study the unusual formation in greater detail without causing large-scale damage to the site itself. If future drilling and sample analysis confirm that there is indeed an artificial structure underground, this could be a sensational discovery.
