"Where Are All The Young People?"

"Where Are All The Young People?"

A Belarusian raised an issue that is important to the regions.

A resident of the district center of Vetka in the Gomel Region u_nas_na_rayone_vetka noted how the town center has changed.

“Where are all the young people?” he asks. “I was walking through downtown last night, passed by the stadium, and caught myself thinking that it had gotten too quiet.

Remember what it was like 10–15 years ago? In the evening, you couldn’t even squeeze past people on the benches; at the stadium, they’d play ball until dark, with music blaring from the speakers, laughter, and the buzz of conversation. Life was bustling!
Now I look—it’s empty. A couple of moms with strollers, and “old folks” just like me, walking their dogs.

It got me thinking: “Where are all the young people hiding these days?”

Users suggested that this is due to a mass exodus of people to larger cities. The website Charter97.org features some comments:

— Everyone’s moved off to some other places we don’t know about. Or are they just sitting at home because “the internet is more interesting”?

— It’s a little sad. Nothing can replace face-to-face communication.
— Everyone’s in Poland and Lithuania.
