Budanov: Let's Believe In America

The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine reiterated the sanctions against Russia.

U.S. support is important, but Ukraine must also maintain internal unity and rely on its own strengths.

This was stated the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kirill Budanov during the YES Annual Meeting 2026, organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

“Let’s all believe in America. We definitely need its help. And while the situation has changed somewhat regarding Ukraine, that’s exactly how it is. I hope it’s changed for the better. At the very least, I want to believe that,” Budanov said.

At the same time, the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office urged people not to forget about internal processes in Ukraine, as well as the sanctions pressure on Russia.

“No one is going to do anything for us. Continuous support for Ukraine, maintaining unity, combined with sanctions pressure… And we must not forget to talk about this either, because the 21st sanctions package has already been imposed (by the EU—ed.). That’s all well and good, but new packages keep coming—which means, to put it mildly, that this work is not yet complete,” he noted.

According to Budanov, we need to determine whether our partners truly want to use sanctions to push Russia toward certain decisions, or if this is simply “some kind of process.”

“I want to believe that this is, after all, a mechanism and not just a process. So let me say it again: believe in America, believe in Europe, and, most importantly, believe in Ukraine. Together, we are strong. If we’re united, well, no one will be able to do anything. If we’re like ‘The Swan, the Crab, and the Pike’—well, excuse me—the result will be accordingly,” the head of the Presidential Administration concluded.
