A Pen Pal Introduced A Woman From Minsk To A New Source Of “passive Income”

A woman from Minsk fell victim to scammers while trying to make money from cryptocurrency investments, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The 41-year-old specialist at a Minsk-based organization met a man online. During their conversation, the user told the victim “about his passion for cryptocurrency” and suggested that the Minsk resident try investing as well, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

When the woman agreed, the young man introduced her to a specialist who allegedly helps beginners for free. Following his recommendations, the Minsk resident transferred money to a crypto wallet she believed was her own.


Each time, the “advisor” demanded that she increase the transfer amount to raise the stakes. And when the Minsk woman refused to deposit any more money, both the “advisor” and her “friend” from the dating site deleted their correspondence and stopped responding.

A criminal case has been opened regarding this incident.
