Armenian Police Released Belarusian Lev Mikheev

Belarusian political émigré Lev Mikheev, , who was detained by Armenian police following his forced deportation from Georgia, has been released.

This was reported to “Pozirku” by human rights activist Roman Kislak.

“He said he is alert, in good spirits, and grateful to everyone for their support,” Kislak said.

Mikhayev had been seeking political asylum in Georgia for five years. He was detained in Armenia at the request of the Belarusian authorities. Both countries are connected to the CIS wanted persons database. Yerevan, which has set a course toward closer ties with the European Union, does not extradite foreign citizens who are being persecuted for political reasons.
