Lavrov Issued A New Ultimatum Regarding The End Of The War In Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Minister made an absurd statement.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow would not agree to a ceasefire limited to the current front lines. He also accused Ukraine and the West of allegedly seeking to “freeze” the war and stated that any peace settlement must take into account Russia’s territorial gains. Lavrov made these remarks during a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum, according to UNIAN, citing Russian media.

According to the Russian minister, Moscow allegedly considers it unacceptable for hostilities to simply cease while the current line of contact remains unchanged.

Lavrov stated that Ukraine and Western countries allegedly do not want to end the war, but only to “freeze” it, thereby, in his words, preserving the threat to Russia: “They are seeking not to resolve the conflict, but to freeze it, thereby maintaining this threat on our borders.”

At the same time, Lavrov effectively linked the possibility of ending the war to the need to recognize Russia’s territorial seizures. He stated that no “realities on the ground” can be ignored during negotiations, referring to the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.

The Russian minister also stated that Moscow would not agree to simply halt hostilities at the current positions.

“If we were to suddenly halt at the line of contact right now, we would, in essence, be allowing the heroic deeds of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who defeated Nazism, to be devalued,” Lavrov said.

In explaining Moscow’s position, Lavrov resorted to the traditional Russian propaganda accusation that Ukraine is “Nazi.” He stated that agreeing to a ceasefire while maintaining the current Ukrainian government would allegedly mean “giving the green light to the resurgence of Nazism.”

The Russian foreign minister also stated that the principles on which Russia had previously recognized Ukraine’s independence had allegedly been “thrown on the scrapheap.”
