A Belarusian woman took her baby to the doctor and wants the Ministry of Health to listen to her.
A Belarusian woman brought her one-month-old baby to donate blood at the Zhdanovichi clinic near Minsk and found that there was no changing table there. She expressed her outrage in a TikTok video, calling on the Ministry of Health to hear her concerns. The video has garnered over 140,000 views and hundreds of comments, according to "Zerkalo".
“I want the Ministry of Health—which I can’t get through to—to hear me right now and pay attention to the Zhdanovichi clinic, specifically the pediatric ward and the blood donation area,” the young mother said.
According to the woman, she came to the clinic with her one-month-old baby for her first appointment. She had no complaints about the pediatrician’s care, but problems arose when it came time to draw blood. There was no changing table in the procedure room, even though the baby had to be undressed for the blood draw: the sample was taken from the big toe.
“I undress the baby while sitting on a stool or a chair—everything keeps falling on the floor,” she said.
After the procedure, there was nowhere to dress the baby in the office either. The woman complained that she had to gather her things and carry her undressed baby out into the hallway, but there was no changing table there either. As a result, she had to dress her “naked child in front of everyone” on a bench.
The Belarusian woman said she had already had problems with this clinic during her pregnancy. According to her, she had to be treated there because her primary clinic does not provide prenatal care, and based on her place of residence, she was assigned to the clinic in Zhdanovichi. At that time, the author of the video claims, there was no special table in the blood-drawing room.
“They took it on the back of a chair: they’d just put my arm on the back of the chair like this and draw blood,” she said.
According to her, the medical worker pricked her vein twice and worked without gloves, and after she filed a complaint, a table appeared in the room about a month later.
What upset the woman the most was the lack of a changing table for newborns:
“Here’s the question: where am I supposed to undress this baby—on the floor? Why isn’t there a changing table for newborns at the clinic? There are in restrooms, at gas stations, and in shopping malls. Is there even one changing table at the clinic? In the treatment room? In the hallway?”
