Gordon Asked Whitcoff A Tough Question

Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon asked the U.S. delegation a tough question during the visit of special envoys from U.S. President Donald Trump to Kyiv on September 6. This was reported by a correspondent for the publication “Gordon”.

During a press briefing following the talks, Gordon asked Steve Whitcoff whether he believed that Vladimir Putin was misleading Trump.

“You’ve met with President Putin very often. Don’t you think that Putin has been deceiving you all this time? Don’t you think that Putin, the Russians, and Russia as a whole understand only one language—the language of force? And finally, doesn’t it disgust you to sit at the same table with an international war criminal, the executioner of the Ukrainian people, who is personally responsible for the Ukrainian tragedy?” Gordon asked.

Whitcoff replied that to resolve the war, it is important to maintain relations and communication with both sides of the conflict. According to Trump’s special envoy, he traveled to Moscow about eight times and met with Putin and his team.

“We have always been treated with respect by President Putin. Relationships are very important in resolving such a conflict. If you don’t have relationships with both sides and communication is poor, the chances of resolving the situation peacefully are very slim,” he noted.

He explained that the U.S. delegation first met with Putin so that, based on their discussions with him, they could offer advice to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Both sides must reach a solution, and Jared’s and my job is to bring the two sides together, bridge the gap between them, and improve communication channels. We hope to begin this process constructively. I think we’ll reach a good resolution to this issue,” added Trump’s special representative.
