"Alternative For Germany" Wins The Election In Saxony-Anhalt

"AdG" scored the biggest victory in its history in the regional elections.

In the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the “Alternative for Germany” party (AfD) scored the biggest victory in its history in the regional elections, according to ZDF. According to preliminary estimates of the vote, the right-wing party received between 44% and 44.5% of the vote.

Voter turnout in the eastern German state, which has a population of about 2 million, was extremely high. Polling stations closed at 6:00 p.m., and the first vote counts already confirmed the AfD’s triumph. The conservative CDU bloc is polling at about 18.5%, while the Left Party is at 9–9.5%. The Greens and the Social Democrats (SPD) are currently tied for third place with results in the 8–9% range.

The fate of the BSW party, which split from the radical left, remains uncertain. It is hovering just above the 5 percent threshold (4.8–5 percent).
