Minsk Residents: Why Do We Need A State Like This?

The discussion about the work of the utility workers ended with questions for the authorities.
Minsk residents are complaining on social media about the lack of cleaning in the building entryways.
“Minsk, September 7, 2026,” writes karina.hihlusha. “The stairwell hasn’t been cleaned since January! Can you tell me where to file a complaint? Calling 115 doesn’t help, and complaints to the district administration are only effective once.”
The author of the post was told that cleaning problems exist in many high-rise buildings in the capital. The website Charter97.org cites some comments:
- It’s the same situation in my stairwell. No one responds at all. There’s just no one to clean, that’s all. After we file a complaint, at most they’ll douse the floors with water and bleach, but any stains or trash—it’s all still there. And yet we still pay for cleaning every month.
- I’ve been living here for four years now; the stairwell has never been cleaned, and the windows—it feels like they haven’t been washed since the building was constructed.
- File a complaint with the Minsk City Executive Committee right away; the housing and utilities service will call you immediately to apologize and ask you to withdraw the complaint.
- Have you even seen the job posting from the housing and utilities service looking for janitors and cleaners? Well, it’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., six days a week—for 600 rubles. Who would even take that job?
- There’s no one to work there.
- So soon we’ll be treating ourselves instead of doctors, rescuing people instead of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and so on. Why do we need a government like this?
