On January 12 a well-known Belarusian journalist Veranika Charkasava would have turned 50.
On October 20, 2004 Veranika Charkasava was found dead in her own apartment. 20 stab wounds were found on her body by experts.
From the beginning the investigation insisted that it was a domestic crime. Main suspects were closest relatives of the journalist. However, these absurd speculations haven’t been confirmed.
Investigation held by journalists confirmed that the assassination had been made by a professional killer, who tried to imitate the environment of a domestic crime. However, law-enforcing agencies in fact ignore these arguments. In fact, investigation of Veranika Charkasava is blocked.
Journalists attracted attention of the investigators to the fact that in spring 2004 “Salidarnasts” newspaper published a cycle of Veranika Charkasava’s articles “KGB is still watching you” was published. Earlier the journalist wrote about Iraqi contracts of firms connected to “Infobank” (which is called “Trustbank” now).
