South Ossetia expects favourable decision of the question of this republic’s independence’s recognition by Belarus.
“Recognition of other countries’ independence by Belarus is a strictly internal affair of Belarus,” said the deputy minister of foreign affairs of South Ossetia Alan Pliev.
“As Alyaksandr Lukashenka said, such decisions are to be adopted without any pressure, including the pressure of Georgia on the decision of Belarusian leadership,” Pliev said.
As said by him, “The Republic of South Ossetia hopes that Belarus as well as other countries would make a favourable decision about its independence’s recognition. Our state is at work on that, so that other states would follow the example of the Russian Federation of August 26, 2008 and would recognize our states”.
“We hope that our relations with the states with which we have improved relations, are to develop on a constructive level,” Alan Pliyev added.
As we have informed, official Georgia is concerned by the fact that Belarus may recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia under pressure of the Russian side.
Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Jalagania stated that yesterday.
He noted that the Georgian side hopes the Belarus Parliament will take a well thought-out step and not recognize the separatist regions.
“Georgia understands that Belarus is under great pressure from Russia because its economy is completely dependent on Russian gas. However if the Belarus Parliament recognises Abkhazia and South Ossetia this will be evaluated by Georgia as an unfriendly action,” Jalagania said.
The Belarusian “parliament” plans to consider the question of Abkhazia and South Ossetia’s recognition on April 2.
Except Russia, these breakaway republics have been recognised only by Nicaragua and “Hamas”.
