The Minsk mayor is on rehabilitation course in Germany after a surgery on eradication of brain tumor.
Health of the Minsk mayor is a top secret. The Minsk city executive committee refuses to give any comments on this. The administration of the 5th clinical hospital of Minsk, where Paulau had a difficult surgery, prefers to keep silence, too. According to “Zavtra Tvoey Strany” reports, Mikhail Paulau feels OK and is taking treatment most likely in Germany.
“A surgery on eradication of brain tumor sounds terrifying,” said a representative of the Republican Scientific Practical Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery. “But we shouldn’t forget that the surgery was conducted by a leading neurosurgeon Arnold Smeyanovich. It wasn’t an antral operation needed trepanation of the skull. We used a microscope to perform the surgery, used modern anaesthesia. These allow to eradiate a tumor of any size.”
According t doctors, a patient is able to stand up on the next day after the operation, and walk on the second day. The location of a tumor is important, if it is situated in the so called silent zone, the chances for successful treatment are higher.
Doctors say, Mikhail Paulau was offered further treatment in the Republican Hospital of the Department of President’s Affaires, where high ranking patients take treatment. But Paulau refused.
There’s information Mikhail Paulau was taken to the famous Charité hospital in Berlin, Germany. Its peculiarity is that patient’s treatment is discussed by doctors from specialized clinics – neurosurgery, radio oncology, and radiology. Every patient is offered treatment most suitable for him. Belarusian medical workers were trained in the Charité hospital.
The Ministry of Health of Belarus neither confirm nor deny information about Mikhail Paulau’s treatment in Germany.
“No comments. There’s what we call medical secrecy,” Halina Valzhankina, head of the Department of Medical Aid, said. “Besides, do we have a right to interfere with one’s personal life? Mr Mikhail has done much for our city. Let’s respect his personal life.”
Former minister of health of Belarus Ihar Zelyankevich thinks the information about the health of such high ranking persons as the head of the Minsk city executive committee shouldn’t be hided from public.
“It’s not a business of doctors and officials of the Ministry of Health to comment on this,” Ihar Zelyankevich says. “We mustn’t violate the Hippocratic Oath. This is a closed theme for medical workers. But in my view, the press service of the Minsk city executive committee must inform the public about health of the Minsk mayor. It’s normal for a democratic society.”
