Venezuelan oil for Belarus can stop Mazeikiai oil refinery

4

Volume of oil supplied exceeds Klaipeda port’s logistical capability.

Plans to supply Venezuelan oil to Belarus through Klaipeda seaport pose a threat of reducing and even total cessation of oil deliveries to Mazeikiai oil refinery which is owned by a Polish company Orlen, ru.DELFI.lt reports with a reference to Warsaw Business Journal.

There are plans to supply 160 thousand tons (2 tankers) of oil monthly through Klaipeda terminal, which in fact exceeds logistical capability of the seaport. As a result the seaport won’t be able to fulfil its obligations to Mazeikiai oil refinery.

At the same time dependence of the oil refinery on sea rout of raw material supplies has greatly increased after Lithuanian railways abolished a direct line to Latvian seaports. Alternative raw material supply routs of deliveries though Latvia and Estonia would cost much more for the plant.
