Belarusian sour cream has been spotted in stores in the UAE.
Belarusian "Brest-Litovsk" sour cream has been spotted on store shelves in the UAE. A user named mega_pavlik posted a photo on Threads. In the comments, Belarusians discussed this “outrageous” price tag, according to “Zerkalo”.
“Belarusians, tell me—is this a normal price for sour cream, or is it outrageously overpriced?” the author of the post asked.
The price tag shows that a jar of sour cream with 20% fat content costs 30.75 dirhams—about 25 rubles—while sour cream with 15% fat content costs 26.50 dirhams—almost 22 rubles. In Belarus, the same 20% fat sour cream costs 3.75 rubles, and 15% fat sour cream costs 3.23 rubles.
In the comments, users tried to find an explanation for such a high price tag:
“Well, this is in the UAE. It’s definitely overpriced—if it were sold in the village of Dubai in the Brest Region. But as it is, the markup is seven times higher just because they brought it to the desert.”
