Lower than the lowest border

22

… The website naviny.by has recently published a material by the site’s regular author Alyaksandr Zimouski, where the main character is late Aleh Byabenin.

There’s no desire to retell the article and moreover quote it. In his usual manner, the author is giggling at the fresh grave of our colleague violating a tradition to say only good about the dead or say nothing.

I am not going to criticize the author. I’d like to tell about other things. I am writing about us, the people who publish these materials. About staff of democratic, as it thought to be, mass media that don’t feel confused when publishing such articles.

Business is business, of course: everyone wants to attract visitors to own website, earn money and so on. But I’d like to remind that democratic journalism in our country started as moral journalism contrary to party journalism.

Today, the media than call themselves democratic publish Zimouski who giggling at our late colleague. I am not personal. Why not publish different views, it’s the foundation of journalism? But there should be a moral border and no one must fall lower.

Unlike other activities, journalism is governed not only by laws banning propaganda of violence, national hatred, etc. there are also ethic codes.

If it was the only thing! Our media are overloaded with a pile of biased articles with poor or no arguments at all. As the elections are coming closer, the media are becoming a place where democratic journalists and politicians conflict inventing such amoral accusations of one another that even official ideologists may relax and do nothing.

Anyway, codes are created to be reminded about them.
