The new chairman of the pro-governmental Union of Poles of Belarus (UPB) can speak Polish and strives for a truce with the so called disgraced union.
Such information appeared in the media after Mieczylaw Lysy had headed the pro-governmental Polish organization on Saturday.
Does resignation of Stanislaw Siemaszko give the UPB a chance for a re-union after a split in 2005?
The head of the Council of unofficial Union of Poles of Belarus, Andrzej Poczobut, says it is impossible. According to Andrzej Poczobut, the union is not in conflict with personally Siemaszko or Lysy, but has a conflict with the authorities. Siemaszko and Lysy are the persons appointed by the authorities.
“The Union of Poles is ready for negotiations with the authorities. If the authorities want to solve the problem, we are ready for the talks. We are not interested in negotiating with puppets, because they do not decide anything, they have no weight, they simply cannot be responsible for their words,” Andrzej Poczobut said in an interview to Radio Racyja.
Under the statute of the Union of Poles, Mieczyslaw Lysy will head the organization until his term of office expires in autumn 2013 and elections of a new chairperson are held. The new chairperson has not proposed to meet with the leaders of the alternative Union of Poles headed by Andzelika
