One more murderer, Bakiyev’s brother, hides in Belarus

Kyrgyzstan demands Belarus to extradite Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his brother, who was in charge of the firing of demonstrators in April 2010.

It was stated by Kryrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev on air of “Echo of Mpscow” radio, RIA Novosti informs.

We remind that in April 2010 a coup took place in the country. During the storming of the building of the government in Bishkek and in the following riots about 90 persons were killed in the city, and about 1,500 were injured. Then Bakiyev, his brother Zhanysh Bakiyev who was the chief of the State Defense Council, and his elder son Marat fled Kyrgyzstan. They were charged with mass murder and abuse of power, and put on the international wanted list.

“We ask not only to extradite the former president, there is another horrible man, the brother of the president, who was in charge of the peaceful demonstrators’ firing, and moreover, there had been an order to fire at head or chest only,” Atambayev said.

The president of Kyrgyzstan did not comment in detail on the information that Bakiyev had been granted a Belarusian citizenship, he just observed that “it is a right of Lukashenka to decide to whom a passport is issued by him.”

He also added that Kyrgyzstan asks other foreign states where members of the former president’s family involved in the events of 2010 are hiding, to extradite to the country all who had been implicated in the bloody crimes. Atambayev noted that one of these people is hiding in London.

“We are conducting talks on these unpleasant questions, on the issue of the criminals’ extradition, with all countries including Russia. If we have any information, we ask to turn over these people to us,” he said.

After his escape from Kyrgyzstan, Bakiyev lived in Belarus in one of the governmental residences. In early February 2012 mass media informed that Bakiyev was granted a Belarusian citizenship back in 2010. It should be stressed that the Interior Affairs Ministry of Belarus did not confirm or disprove this information.
