Dwellers of Uruchye Minsk's district protect against houses for riot police

People living in Uruchye-2 city district protest against building new blocks of flats in the district.

Protesters gathered today at the construction site with posters and banners “No to construction”, “Observe the law”, “Sporting grounds must be for children”.

Journalists of Belarus-2 TV channel were filming the people, ep-by.org website reports.

We remind a conflict between district dwellers and the administration of the Pershamaiski district began in 2005. The local authorities decided to construct a nine-storey block of flats for riot police in a small yard. Another block of flats will be built on the place of a playground. Population density per square kilometre in the district already exceeds the permitted level.
