Martin Uggla, the chairman of Swedish human rights organization Östgruppen, commented on the refusal of the Belarusian authorities to allow him to the country.
Martin Uggla said in an interview to charter97.org:
“Denial of issuing a visa to me is a clear sign the Belarusian authorities fear the truth. They try to hinder and scare away those spreading truthful information about the events in Belarus, because they understand this information undermines the legitimacy of the government. They want to hide this information. But in this way, the Belarusian authorities show their real face. It is a face of dictatorship, where freedom of speech and other human rights are not respected. They undermine their own legitimacy.
It's obvious we should not hope the acting authorities will carry out for democratic reforms. I think more and more EU politicians understand it. So, Lukashenka has less and less chanced to deceive the EU again.”
