Bakiyev Family Does Business In Belarus Through Scottish Offshore

The family of the ex-dictator of Kyrgyzstan fled to Belarus after the anti-government protests of 2010.

The share of the nephew of Kurmanbek Bakiyev was revealed in the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation. Asylbek Saliev owns it through the Scottish offshore.

Asylbek Saliev is 31 years old. According to the data from the British registry, he has considerable control in two Scottish companies - Altastar LP and Maxforse LP. In both of them, his share exceeds 75%, writes naviny.by.

In turn, Altastar LP owns 11%, and Maxforse LP - 11.5% of the CJSC Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation. Thus, through the Scottish offshore, Asylbek Saliev controls 22.5% of the BNBC.

Another 22.5% of the corporation is owned by two Emirati companies - Al Salaam Biotech Investments Ltd. and Al Ziad Agro Investments Ltd. Who is behind them is still unknown.

The Belarusian state owns 25% in the BNBC. Large Chinese companies CITIC International Investments Ltd. and COFCO Corporation owns 20% and 9%, respectively. The Russian company Viren-Invest has 1% in the authorized fund.

Asylbek Saliev is the son of Zhanysh Bakiyev - the brother of the former President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Zhanysh Bakiyev used to head the State Security Service, but after the anti-government protests in 2010, he and his brother left Kyrgyzstan. Both live in Belarus.

As Bakiyev's financial adviser Yauhen Hurevich told Radio Svaboda, the family of the former president of Kyrgyzstan has withdrawn 200–300 million dollars from the country.

The British registry states that Asylbek Saliev has Belarusian citizenship and lives in Belarus. At home, he is known for litigation with two newspapers during the rule of his uncle.

In 2008, he filed a claim for protection of honor and dignity, finding himself offended because of the publication in the newspapers Alibiu and De-facto information about the fatal car accident to which he was involved. He estimated his honor at a million soms (over 28 thousand dollars). The court then stood on his side.

Asylbek Saliev recently spoke at the Iftar (a charity dinner for compatriots during the month of Ramadan), which was held in Moscow on behalf of Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Saliev conveyed greetings to those present from his uncle. Who, by the way, will celebrate the 70th anniversary on August 1.

The CJSC BNBC builds a large complex for the production of amino acids, compound feeds and premixes on an area of 160 hectares in the Pukhavichy district near Rudzensk. The construction of factories was solemnly launched in 2018. It is planned to be completed by 2032.

The total cost of the project is 733 million dollars. Under its implementation, the Eximbank of China allocated a soft loan of $ 628 million.

The director of the corporation is Daniel Uritsky, in whom former Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov was identified in Kyrgyzstan. Former deputy manager of affairs of the Belarusian ruler, the first deputy minister of agriculture and food Nadzeya Katkavets, and the son of the deputy head of the Belarusian ruler's Administration Illia Snapkou work as top managers in the BNBC.
