Belarusian volunteers have two goals.
Vadzim Kabanchuk, deputy commander of the Kastus Kalinouski regiment, which consists mainly of Belarusians, answered the questions of the authoritative American edition The New York Times.
“We have two goals. We are helping to defend Ukraine against Russia but also advancing the time of Belarus's own liberation from Lukashenka,” said Vadzim Kabanchuk.
“Lukashenka has been in power for so long mainly thanks to Putin's support. If Putin’s resources in Ukraine dry up, he will not be able to provide Lukashenka with the same support as before,” Vadzim Kabanchuk continues in an interview he gave during his visit to the Polish capital Warsaw, where he was, in particular, to recruit volunteers among the impressive Belarusian diaspora.
Kabanchuk noted that the main danger for Lukashenka is not a military attack by his political opponents from the territory of Ukraine, but his dependence on the Kremlin, with which he is in alliance.
“He has no room for maneuver,” Vadzim Kabanchuk says. “He used to meander between Russia and the West, but now he is too much tied to Putin. They're both going to sink on this Titanic.”
