Smuggling Worth EUR Two Million Detained At Belarusian-Lithuanian Border

Cigarettes were transported under the guise of oil.

A large batch of smuggled cigarettes was seized on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border on October 12, Lithuanian customs reports.

A truck driven by a Russian citizen entered Lithuania through the Raigardas checkpoint. The driver said that he was transporting sunflower oil to the Kaliningrad region. The car was sent for an x-ray, where it was discovered that the oil was only a cover for cigarettes.

Customs officers seized almost 480 thousand packs of Belarusian cigarettes containing Minsk 5 Superslims, NZ Gold and Queen Menthol. The cost of the consignment, including taxes, is estimated at 2 million euros.

An investigation has been instituted. The driver was released on bail and an obligation to appear.
