‘Karayeu, Karanik, Kubrakou And Khrenin Will Be Making Excuses, Shifting Blame Onto Each Other’

Belarusians will willingly listen to such “bloggers.”

In November, the Lukashist authorities suddenly became interested in bloggers, writes Charter97.org reader Maksim from Luninets.

The Ministry of Education shared with the public its intentions to begin training students in the “blogger” specialty. True, after the Ministry of Labor enters the corresponding profession into the directory of official positions.

My colleagues and I tried to imagine what it might look like. Well, for example, they will be admitted to the Faculty of Journalism, with characteristics and recommendation letters from the Belarusian Republican Youth Union. Such “famous bloggers” as Azaronak, for example, will train and teach students for 5 whole years. Well, what next? Maybe they will create some kind of “factory of bloggers” from young specialists to non-stop glorify the achievements of the regime? Or maybe they will even be assigned to regional publications for five years, and a sad, certified blogger somewhere in Loyeu will shoot optimistic videos about sowing and harvesting, milk yield and mowing.

But you can’t lure modern audiences with this. Even ordinary people, far from intellectual circles, want to see on screens not the hard everyday work that bores them anyway, but a kind of dolce vita. This demand was satisfied by a certain group of media figures, including Hanna Bandarchuk, Larysa Hrybaliova and Dzianis Kuryan. Having a fairly large circle of fans, they made good money from advertising contracts. All the people mentioned were emphatically apolitical, the content of their videos was completely entertaining, something about cuisine, fashion, seaside resorts, etc.

But the other day we learned what misadventures befell these famous personalities. First, Hanna, Larysa and Dzianis were arrested. Fortunately, they were released almost immediately, but, unfortunately for them, they were prohibited from taking money from advertisers. In fact, this is such a Lukashist Berufsverbot.

For the regime, those bloggers were guilty only of not approving of its violent actions in 2020. In recent years they have remained silent, simply working and earning money. But now this is not enough. If lawlessness reigns in a state, it spreads to everything and everyone.

I take this kind of creativity on social media quite calmly, since I am interested in other topics. But I imagine the following situation: a tribunal over Lukashism is taking place, in the courtroom the servants of the current regime are trying for a long time and tediously to justify themselves, shifting the blame onto each other. Then we as a whole nation will willingly listen to such “bloggers” as Karayeu, Karanik, Kubrakou or Khrenin. Live broadcast, crazy number of views are guaranteed, no doubt about it!
