Iran Has Closed The Strait Of Hormuz Again

Tehran stated that the U.S. had violated the ceasefire agreement.

The Iranian Armed Forces’ Central Command, “Khatam al-Anbia,” announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to shipping. The reason is the U.S. violation of the peace agreement and Israel’s violation of the ceasefire, according to the Mehr news agency.

“This step is the first phase of our response to the enemy’s violation of the agreements, and if the aggression continues, subsequent steps will be planned and implemented to compel the enemy to fulfill its obligations,” the statement reads.

As a reminder, on June 18, the U.S. and Iran signed a peace agreement. The 60-day memorandum of understanding calls for a cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, the lifting of sanctions against Tehran, and the creation of a fund for Iran’s reconstruction. The agreement extends the ceasefire announced in April for another 60 days to allow the parties to negotiate a final truce.

Both U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his team emphasize that this is only a memorandum for now, and its provisions will be implemented only if Iran “behaves itself.” Trump once again did not rule out new airstrikes against Iran if a final agreement is not reached within the two-month period.
