A French court has issued an arrest warrant for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad on charges of using chemical weapons in 2013.
AFP reports citing sources.
According to the article, four arrest warrants have been issued in total on charges of using chemical weapons.
In addition to the Syrian dictator, charges have been brought against his brother Maher al-Assad, who is the commander of the Syrian Republican Guard (an elite military formation created to protect the Syrian authorities), as well as two other generals, whose names the agency does not specify.
All four have been charged with crimes against humanity and complicity in war crimes.
