Media: Two Checkpoints On Lithuanian-Belarusian Border Are Planned To Be Closed On August 18

The final date will be agreed upon at a meeting of the Lithuanian government.

The border crossings “Šumskas/Losha” and “Tverečius/Vidzy”on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border are planned to be closed next Friday, August 18. BNS writes about this with a reference to the adviser to the Minister of Transport Gabrielė Vasiliauskaitė.

According to her, this is a preliminary date, which can be agreed upon during the government meeting on August 15. It will consider a project for the temporary closure of two checkpoints on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.

A cover letter from the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport says that it is proposed to temporarily suspend activities at two checkpoints “due to the decrease in geopolitical circumstances and threats”.

Last week it became known that Lithuania intends to close two checkpoints on the border with Belarus. This refers to the points “Šumskas” (“Losha” from the Belarusian side) and “Tverečius” (“Vidzy”). In Lithuania, this was motivated by increased threats in connection with the relocation of the Wagner PMC to Belarus, as well as by the need to apply measures to combat smuggling.
