Lithuania Commented On The Closure Of Checkpoints On The Border With Belarus

They will close the Losha and Vidzy checkpoints.

Darius Urbonas, the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Lithuania and member of the National Security Group, said about a technical reason for the upcoming closure of the Shumskas and Tveryachyus checkpoints on the border with Belarus. He explained the reasons for the closure of these border crossings on the air of LRT radio. He also indicated a lack of equipment there. According to him, this will simplify the work of border and customs services.

“We lack certain equipment for sufficient control over the smuggling at those checkpoints, and if these checkpoints were closed, of course, we could redeploy these means to other places, strengthening the security of our external border,” he said.

The information that Lithuania is going to close the Shumskas-Losha and Tveryachyus-Vidzy checkpoints appeared on Friday. This decision was also presented as one of the steps in response to the Wagner PMC relocation to Belarus.
