The difference is colossal.
Belarusian officials often say that “we have a social state”. However, is this supported by the data on the salaries of one of the most sought-after groups of specialists — doctors? Euroradio compared the average salaries of doctors in Belarus and Poland.
As reported by the newspaper “Wyborcza” and the portal Money.pl, the median salary of doctors in Poland at the beginning of 2024 was 17 thousand zlotys (4.2 thousand dollars at the exchange rate). That is, half of the doctors earn less than this amount, and half — more.
Data on the median salaries of doctors in Belarus is not published, but officially the average salary of doctors in mid-2024 was estimated at 3.2 thousand rubles — that is, about a thousand dollars at the exchange rate in June. Note that median salaries are always significantly lower than average.
Another fact about Polish doctors' salaries: sometimes they are ready to pay them one-sixth of the salary of a Belarusian colleague per hour of work. For example, now an endocrinologist in the Lubusz Voivodeship is offered 590 zlotys per hour of work, that is, about 150 dollars.
The statutory minimum salary of a doctor on a contract in Poland is 10.4 thousand zlotys — more than 2.5 thousand dollars. In Belarus, a separate “minimum” was not introduced for doctors; the general minimum threshold for a full-time position in the country this year was 626 rubles, that is, less than 200 dollars.
How many doctors are needed in Belarus
As of December 7, 4,481 vacancies for medical specialists were registered with the State Employment Service.
The overwhelming majority of them (4,422) offer up to 3.4 thousand rubles, that is, up to a thousand dollars. Of these, slightly less than half (2048 vacancies) are ready to offer a doctor a salary of up to 1700 rubles, that is, up to 500 dollars in equivalent.
