Andrei Sannikov Has Anniversary Today

There are leaders in Belarus who really think about the country and people, who are ready to make sacrifices for the sake of free and democratic future of their motherland. Such a person is certainly the coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign, Andrei Sannikov, who is celebrating his 70th birthday today.

The politician went into opposition to the dictatorship of Aliaksandr Lukashenka back in 1996, having resigned from the post of Deputy Foreign Minister. The founder of the Charter-97 civil initiative, one of the founders of the Charter97.org website, leader of the European Belarus civil campaign, became an opposition presidential candidate in 2010 and, according to independent observers, was entering the second round of elections. However, on December 19, 2010 Andrei Sannikov was arrested and thrown into prison, where he spent two years in conditions of torture and abuse. His wife and son were also repressed and arrested. Currently, the European Belarus leader continues his work in exile, defending the national interests of the country in the international arena.
