State Propagandists Are Silent About Main Scandal In Russia

All federal channels ignore an important event.

The arrest of Sergei Shoigu's entourage in the case of a record bribe for the Ministry of Defence is not the week's topic. The final shows on federal TV completely ignored the case of Timur Ivanov. But the Akhmat detachment was praised.

They kept silent about this in the final broadcasts of all three federal TV channels, Mozhem Obyasnit ("We Can Explain") noted. None of the final programs even mentioned this high-profile case, which involves bribes totalling 1 billion, as Russian media reported, citing sources in the special services.

Dmitry Kiselev in the Vesti Nedeli last show ignored the topic of the arrest of the Deputy Minister of Defence, but reminded the audience about the anniversary of the arson of the House of Trade Unions in Odesa, explained why Ukrainians go over to the side of Russia, and told about the life of Afghans from the Soviet quarter of Kabul.

Ekaterina Andreeva in the Sunday Time show also ignored the topic of Ivanov's arrest. Instead, Andreeva told the audience about the "story of courage" of the Akhmat detachment (whose leader is a potential successor to Ramzan Kadyrov) and about the US aid package.

In the Results of the Week show on NTV, Irada Zeylanova also avoided a loud corruption story, although the channel itself covered the first news about the arrests of Timur Ivanov and his accomplices.

Political analyst Abbas Galliamov said in an interview with the MO show that there are two possible reasons for such ignoring this topic by main Russia’s media: either the authorities do not want to tease the population with stories about the luxury and corruption of generals in the midst of the war, or there is an unspoken agreement with Timur Ivanov that he will cooperate with the investigation, but for this, his case won’t be covered on TV.
