Forbes: Ukrainian Combat Drones Detonated 2,000 Tons Of Munition In Southern Russia

The Ukrainian campaign of deep strikes against strategic targets inside Russia has changed.

Four days after the explosion of a huge arsenal in the city of Toropets in western Russia, Ukrainian combat drones struck this facility again and attacked Tikhoretsk in the south of the aggressor country.

According to Forbes, there is no confirmation, probably, for these strikes, Ukraine uses the Palyanytsia rocket drone.

The Toropets warehouse contained significant stocks of small arms, mortar shells, artillery rockets and long-range ballistic missiles, including Russian Iskander and North Korean KN-23. At the same time, the warehouse in Tikhoretsk "is one of the three largest bases for storing ammunition and is one of the key in the logistics system of Russian troops."

According to the estimates of the General Staff, at the time of the strike there were 2,000 tons of ammunition, including North Korean-made shells. The high fireball resulting from the impact confirms this assessment. These explosions in warehouses caused local earthquakes and were visible from space.

Successive raids on ammunition depots signal a change in the Ukrainian campaign of deep strikes against strategic targets inside Russia.

For many months, Kyiv asked its European and American allies to allow British Storm Shadow, French SCALP-EG and American missiles to hit Russia, but was constantly refused.

"Obviously, patience has run out, the Ukrainians have doubled the production of locally developed weapons - drones and missiles - with which they can shell targets inside Russia without first asking anyone's permission. Recent attacks also indicate an increase in the scale of Ukrainian deep strikes. Previous raids, some of which hit targets up to 1,800 km inside Russia, were impressive in terms of logistics, but small in scale,” the newspaper notes.

However, recent raids have been far more devastating. This indicates a weapon that does not fly as far as Ukrainian drones, but has more power and sufficient numbers.

The Russians in Toropets claimed to have heard the jet engines overhead before the local ammunition depot exploded, which also points to the Palianytsia.

This missile was developed for more than a year and recently had a combat debut – on August 24, it hit a target in occupied Crimea. Palyanitsa boasts an AI-PBS-350 turbojet engine jointly developed by PBS in the Czech Republic and the Ukrainian firm Ivchenko-Progress. This engine produces 3,400 Newtons of thrust – enough to deliver a monotonous rocket several hundred kilometers away.

This makes Palianytsia similar to the Neptune cruise missile with a turbofan engine. However, the latter is more expensive to produce. Although less effective, the rocket is also cheaper. This allows to make them much bigger.
