The Ukrainian President spoke with the American politician about this even before his victory in the elections.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to US President Donald Trump's proposal regarding Ukraine's rare earth resources, New Voice reports.
“We are open to the fact that minerals can be developed with our partners who help us protect our land and push the enemy back with their weapons, their presence, and sanctions packages. And this is absolutely fair. I talked about this back in September, when we had a meeting with President Trump,” Zelensky said during a press briefing on Tuesday, February 4.
The Ukrainian President was asked about his vision of cooperation with partners in the field of mineral extraction. Zelensky recalled that Ukraine's victory plan includes a clause that provides for investments in this industry.
The President noted that Ukraine is open to the entry of American companies. He added that if Russia controls minerals, there is a possibility that companies from other countries, such as Iran or North Korea, will “enter there.”
“I would like American business, I know that it is really interested in entering Ukraine, I would like them to develop this area with us,” Zelensky noted.
On February 3, US President Donald Trump expressed interest in acquiring Ukrainian rare earth metals in exchange for US aid.
“We tell Ukraine that they have very valuable rare earth metals… We want guarantees. We are transferring money to them on a huge scale, we are transferring weapons, the Europeans are not keeping up with us… For them [the Europeans], this is more important than for us, but they are far behind us. We want to conclude an agreement with Ukraine, under which they will provide our aid with their minerals and other things,” he said.
