US President Donald Trump will attend an emergency meeting with the country's top military leadership on Tuesday, September 30.
Associated Press reports Associated Press, citing a White House source.
The White House spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the president's plans before they were formally announced, said Trump's participation was not in the original plan for the meeting, but he decided he wanted to attend.
September 25, The Washington Post, citing a dozen sources familiar with the matter reported that U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had urgently summoned hundreds of generals and admirals to a base in Virginia without explanation.
The newspaper's sources said the "highly unusual directive" was sent to virtually all top military commanders around the world. It was issued earlier this week, months after Hegseth's team at the Pentagon announced plans for a massive downsizing of top military commanders.
The Bloomberg news agency later reported that Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals and admirals to Virginia because of the financial conflict between President Trump and Democrats in Congress.
