Earlier, the US president accused Putin, Xi and Kim Jong-un of "conspiring against the United States".
U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed the Pentagon to prepare the American armed forces for a major restructuring and strengthening of military capabilities against the backdrop of increasing cooperation between Russia and China. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said this on Fox News, reports The Moscow Times.
The Pentagon chief said the rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing was the result of the "weakness of the previous administration," which led to the undermining of the US position in the world. "That's why President Trump has charged us at the Defense Department to revive military morale, renew the armed forces and bring back effective deterrence," Hegseth stressed.
The minister noted that Washington does not seek conflict, but is obliged to provide all necessary means to protect Americans. "We have made this clear to China, Russia and others: readiness prevents war. The presence of force ensures the safety of our citizens," he said. According to Hegseth, modernization will affect all spheres - from space to the depths of the sea.
The parade in Beijing in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the war with Japan and the end of World War II, the head of the Pentagon also called "the consequence of the omissions of the previous U.S. administration." At the same time, the defense minister stressed that Trump "maintains good personal relations" with Xi Jinping, and to reduce possible risks, Washington will primarily use diplomacy.
Ahead of the military parade in Beijing, Donald Trump accused Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un of "conspiring against the United States." "Give my warmest wishes to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un while you are plotting against America," he wrote in the social network Truth Social, addressing the Chinese President. At the same time, the president recalled that the US played a key role in liberating China from Japanese occupation during World War II.
On the eve of the parade, Beijing hosted the SCO summit with the participation of leaders from more than 20 countries. Xi Jinping called for the formation of a "multipolar world" without block confrontation and power politics during the meeting. At the parade itself, Xi said that humanity faces a choice between peace and war and only equality of states, in his opinion, will avoid new conflicts.
The Wall Street Journal wrote that at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the leaders of Russia, China and India demonstrated cohesion, which has become a challenge to U.S. foreign policy. Bloomberg quoted analysts as saying that Xi's meetings with Putin and Modi showed Beijing's desire to create a new center of power alternative to American influence.
