France Initiates NATO Exercises In Greenland

Paris is ready to contribute to them.

French President Emmanuel Macron's administration has initiated a military exercise in Greenland amid an escalating crisis over the island.

This was reported by Reuters.

"France has requested a NATO exercise in Greenland and is ready to contribute to it," the Reuters report said.

It is noted that the administration of the French President informed about the initiated military exercises.

Reminder, earlier US President Donald Trump declared his intention to buy Greenland. According to the American leader, for America it is allegedly a matter of national security.

On January 14, the media reported rumors that the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was instructed to prepare a proposal to buy Greenland.

The American leader also recently imposed tariffs against a number of European countries. According to him, such restrictions will remain in place until Europe agrees to sell Greenland.

At the same time, Trump recently refused to comment on the possibility of using force to annex Greenland to the U.S.

Also, Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said that a military conflict between Greenland and the U.S. is unlikely, but such a scenario cannot be ruled out. Residents of the island must be prepared.

He added that the Greenland government will form a working group with representatives from all relevant local authorities to help the population prepare for possible disruptions to daily life.
