Axios Reveals Main Intrigue Of Ukraine, Russia And US Talks In Abu Dhabi

The future course of the peace process will depend on that.

Negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and Russia in Abu Dhabi will focus on a key issue - control over territories in eastern Ukraine. The further course of the peace process will depend on the extent to which the sides will be able to find a compromise.

As Axios reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with representatives of US President Donald Trump in the Kremlin on the eve of the new stage of negotiations. White House special envoy Steve Whitkoff, Trump's senior adviser Jared Kushner and administration spokesman Josh Grunbaum arrived in Moscow. The main topic was the American vision of ending the war in Ukraine.

The source said the US has already almost agreed on a peace plan with Kiev, but has so far failed to convince the Kremlin to back it. Russian dictator Putin has not definitively rejected the proposals, leaving room for further consultations.

What will be discussed in Abu Dhabi

The key issue at the Abu Dhabi talks will be precisely the question of territories, particularly the status of Ukraine's eastern regions.

The Kremlin said there were no prospects for a long-term settlement without Kiev's concessions on Donbass.

After the meeting in Moscow, Putin's adviser Yuri Ushakov said U.S. envoys had briefed the Russian president in detail on the progress of talks with Kiev. He said the conversation was constructive and frank, also touching on other international issues.

From Moscow, Whitkoff and Kushner traveled to Abu Dhabi, where they will join the trilateral meeting. U.S. Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will also join the U.S. delegation.
