Trump Assured That His Son Had Already Repaid The Money To The Putin-linked Oligarch For The Wedding In The Bahamas

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his son had already returned the money to Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with ties to Putin, who had paid the rent for an island in the Bahamas, where he celebrated his wedding to Bettina Anderson.

Trump believes that hosting wedding parties for others is “business as usual.” In this regard, renting an island for Donald Trump Jr.’s is “perfectly acceptable.”


BBC journalists reached out to Donald Trump Jr. for confirmation of this information but have not yet received a response.

It is noted that the U.S. president’s eldest son is a private citizen, so he is permitted to accept gifts from foreigners.

However, some argue that there could be a conflict of interest if the president’s son accepts an expensive gift from a foreigner associated with the head of another state.

As a reminder, the American investigative journalism website ProPublica previously revealed that in May 2026, the wedding of Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson was held on one of the islands in the Bahamas.

The two-day rental of the island was paid for by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev (known as Lutfulloev until 2010), who, according to media reports, is a close acquaintance of Vladimir Putin.

Anderson confirmed this information, stating that the Russian oligarch had given an “extremely generous wedding gift.” The newlyweds acknowledged that Kremlev paid for two days of their wedding celebration in the Bahamas, which was attended by 50 people.

Democrats launched an investigation

Following the publication of the investigation Democrats in the U.S. Congress launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kremlev’s financial involvement in the president’s son’s wedding festivities. Reuters notes that the reports specifically concern the financing of the wedding celebrations.

Trump had previously stated that he did not know Kremlev.
