Christine Lagarde told the Russian finance minister exactly what she thinks about the war in Ukraine.

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde delivered a strong message to Russian authorities amid the war against Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.

At a closed-door meeting of the International Monetary Fund, Lagarde asked Anton Siluanov to convey to Putin that the war is harming the global economy and that economic growth is only possible in a peaceful environment. Bloomberg does not disclose the names of its sources, as the meeting was held behind closed doors.

Lagarde made it clear that the consequences of the war extend far beyond Ukraine. Military actions disrupt energy supplies, exacerbate price volatility, and force companies and governments to operate under conditions of uncertainty. As a result, it is not only the direct participants in these conflicts who end up paying the price.

The ECB president also advocated for an international economic order based on openness, predictability, and respect for the rule of law. Such conditions are essential for trade and investment, whereas aggression and confrontation hinder long-term development.

The war unleashed by the Kremlin against Ukraine poses economic risks for the entire world.
