Pavel Durov On The Attacks On The VKontakte Data Center: “We Couldn’t Protect It”

The founder of the social network said that the data center was “built to the highest standards.”

The founder of the social network “VKontakte” Pavel Durov commented on today’s attacks by Ukrainian drones on the VK data center.

“I built the data center that was blown up today near St. Petersburg 15 years ago. I sold it to VK 12 years ago. You can tell it was built to last—the walls are thick. But they couldn’t save it,” Durov wrote on his channel.

VK had previously confirmed the attack on its data center in the Leningrad Region. Users complained of problems accessing “VKontakte.”

Durov himself has not owned “VKontakte” since 2014—that’s when he resigned as CEO and sold his stake in the company. The billionaire is now focused on developing the Telegram messaging app.
