A Republican threatened U.S. officials with consequences for restricting Starshield's operations for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
U.S. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick , a Republican , stated that individuals involved in restrictions on Ukraine’s use of the Starshield satellite communications program will be “held fully accountable.”
Fitzpatrick made this statement on October 19 on his social media page X.
“This week, I will hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team to discuss the Starshield program, sanctions, and other issues related to the defense of our strong ally—Ukraine. I will assure President Zelenskyy that anyone who attempts to restrict the use of the Starshield program for the benefit of Ukraine will be subject to a thorough investigation, and that such a person will be held fully accountable—up to and including public hearings in Congress and an immediate, severe, and punitive reduction in budgetary funding for any responsible agency or its head,” he wrote.
Fitzpatrick also stated that Congress will “unequivocally reaffirm” that Ukraine is an indispensable ally of the United States, while Russia is a self-proclaimed enemy of the U.S.
“The United States will stand 100% behind the people of Ukraine and defend them in their fight for freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion,” he said.
In addition, the congressman mentioned the “Ronald Reagan ‘Peace Through Strength’ Act,” a bill he sponsored that would ban the purchase of Russian oil.
“The United States must provide all the necessary defense equipment that Ukraine needs for self-defense. The United States must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be stricter and tougher than ever before. Each of these points will be brought before the House of Representatives—and each will be passed by the House of Representatives by an overwhelming majority. After all, that is exactly what Ronald Reagan would have done. And that is exactly what we will do now. Ukraine can defeat Russia, and it will defeat it,” Fitzpatrick concluded.
