Petraeus called on Ukraine to continue striking at the Russian military economy.

Former CIA Director and ex-commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan David Petraeus stated in an interview with Sky News that over the past month, the Russian army’s casualties in Ukraine—including those killed and wounded—totaled about 46,000, while Russia recruited just over 30,000 new recruits during the same period.

According to Petraeus, since the start of the full-scale war, Russian casualties have reached 1.5 million killed and wounded. He compared this figure to the total U.S. military casualties throughout World War II.

Separately, the general spoke about the consequences of a complete Starlink outage. According to him, Ukrainian commanders on the front lines reported to him that at that moment they were losing control of their units. Petraeus believes this episode demonstrates just how important satellite communications are for commanding troops.

Petraeus called on Ukraine to continue striking at the Russian military economy and on Western countries to intensify economic pressure on Moscow. He noted that additional U.S. sanctions could reinforce the impact of restrictions already imposed by the European Union and force the Russian leadership to reconsider whether to continue the war.

In addition, the general emphasized that Ukraine lacks interceptor missiles for its air defense systems. He proposed that European countries transfer some of their existing systems to Kyiv and receive new systems in exchange at a later date.
