A Well-known Z-camp Propagandist Was Sentenced To One And A Half Years In Prison
Tatyana Montyan

She called for "taking out the security guards."

In Donetsk, the Voroshilovsky Interdistrict Court—which is controlled by the occupying authorities—sentenced 54-year-old Tatyana Montyan to 1.5 years in a general-regime penal colony. The pro-war blogger and lawyer was found guilty of inciting “extremism” (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code).

The reason for Montyan’s prosecution was her remark, “Kill the security forces without any remorse,” which the blogger made during a livestream in December 2022. In “Z-circles,” the term “security forces” refers to propagandists most closely affiliated with the state who suppress any criticism of Russia’s armed forces and political leadership, writes The Moscow Times.

Montyan later explained that by “take them down without regret,” she meant banning bots from the chat on her livestream. Nevertheless, the Donetsk court agreed with the prosecution’s arguments that the blogger had called for “the commission of hostile violent acts against a group of people.” In addition to a 1.5-year prison sentence, the defendant was also barred from administering websites for two years.

Montyan’s pretrial restriction—a travel ban—remained unchanged until the sentence takes effect. The defense has already stated that it will seek to appeal. “This is simply nonsense. We will appeal and overturn all these farcical court rulings in higher courts. They’re only called ‘court rulings’ due to a historical misunderstanding,” the blogger’s attorneys are quoted as saying “Important Stories”.

Tatyana Montyan is a native of Crimea who spent most of her life working as a lawyer in Ukraine. After the Euromaidan, she took an active pro-Russian stance and provided legal assistance to “LDNR” militants, though she did not move to Russia until 2021. In 2022, Montyan actively supported the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, became a columnist for the RT website, but openly clashed with Vladimir Solovyov and authors close to him.

In September–October 2025, Russian authorities opened a criminal case against Montyan under an “extremist” article and added her to Rosfinmonitoring’s list of “terrorists and extremists.” The blogger is also being prosecuted in absentia in Ukraine—for calls to overthrow the constitutional order, encroachment on territorial integrity, and justifying Russian aggression.
