A Tiny Fiat Electric Car Made The List Of The Best Inventions Of 2026

The two-seater car has gained international recognition.

The tiny electric Fiat Topolino made the list of the best inventions of 2026, as selected by the American magazine TIME. The two-seater car was recognized in the design category for its compact size, Italian style, and practicality for city driving, according to Motor1.

Rather than competing with conventional electric vehicles in terms of power and range, the Topolino is designed for short trips, everyday errands, and parking on narrow city streets. The model features a simple electric powertrain, convenient charging, and an open-top version called the Dolcevita.

According to Fiat, in 2025 the model ranked first in Europe among electric quadricycles, capturing about 20% of the market. In 2026, it maintained its leadership, and the number of orders in the second quarter grew by approximately 30% year-over-year.

“The Topolino proves that even the smallest car can embody a big idea,” said Arno Belloni, Head of the Fiat, Abarth, and Lancia brands and Chief Marketing Officer for Stellantis in Europe.

He also highlighted Fiat’s approach to urban transportation: “We have always believed that mobility should be a source of freedom and pleasure.”

The Time award recognizes, above all, the originality of the idea, rather than sales volume. The Topolino revives a traditional Fiat model and offers an alternative to larger cars for those who need a vehicle primarily for city driving.
