The U.S. president called it "a small price to pay."
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that one of America’s major cities could be destroyed during a war with Iran. “They could wipe an entire city off the face of the earth. Let them destroy Los Angeles or San Diego. That’s a small price [to pay for victory], and it will all be over very soon,” — said Trump at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska. According to him, Americans are currently paying more for gasoline because of the war with Iran, but this is also a “small price” to pay for the security of the U.S. and the world.
The White House chief emphasized that he wants to see a “spectacular victory” over Tehran, “because it will confirm that everything we’ve done was right.” He noted that Iranian authorities may still “drag out the situation,” but the military conflict is already nearing its end, as Iran has a “high pain threshold.” Previously, Trump had claimed that rising fuel prices in the U.S. were not due to the war with Iran, but rather the result of Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries. The day before, he again blamed Kyiv for the rise in global fuel prices. He also said that American Democrats, who are shutting down refineries in states under their control, are responsible for this.
Earlier, in an interview with *Time* magazine, Trump stated that world peace can only be achieved by destroying Iran. The U.S. leader noted that the U.S. has large stockpiles of weapons, which the country has been accumulating over the past six months, and suggested that attacks on Iran could resume after the November congressional elections. In September, according to Fox News, Trump was considering several options for action against Iran. These included “destroying” the country, increasing economic pressure, or striking a deal.
On September 30, the White House chief announced that “something” would happen “very soon” regarding the situation with Tehran. He noted that the Iranian economy is in poor shape and that the country is losing its navy, air force, and air defense systems and is “effectively destroyed.” Last week, according to The Wall Street Journal, Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz and cease hostilities for seven days. According to the publication, in private conversations with staff members, the U.S. president expressed doubts that Tehran would meet his demands and strike a deal.
